![]() Yes, as a handloader, I understand the issues with case density and small powder charge position sensitivities as well as the limited gas charge produced by such as small charge. Has anyone tried such a thing and it so, anyone know how it worked out? What are your thoughts on this working at all? However, instead of swapping out the gas bushing size to tame the cycling forces, what if one added an ASI adjustable gas block to close it down for supersonic, suppressed loads but then be able to open it up for sub-sonic, suppressed loads? Then one does those usual changes (Choate HG for cooling, Accu-Strut, Wilson buffers, and trigger job. Say one starts with a can on the Mini-14 (yes, I know about the sloped shoulder issue at the base of the threads). Is it possible, even if not practical, to configure a Mini-14, say the Model 5848, to function and reliably cycle suppressed with both sub-sonic and supersonic ammo? 223 rd made little sense as it's performance was comparable to that of a 22lr, it seemed that a Ruger 10/22 platform shooting 22 short, long, or long rifle would probably be a better choice as a sub-sonic platform as it would do better in a suppressed sub-sonic role as it's cheaper to own, even 22 long rifles are quieter suppressed, and considerably cheaper to shoot. ![]() So, my response to the member's position in the 1st paragraph was that because a sub-sonic. During the discussion, a member posited that one reason that the Mini-14 wasn't considered by the NFA folks was because it wasn't functional in a sub-sonic suppressed role, a legitimate position.ĭuring a previous discussion on another subject concerning AR-15s, another member mentioned both the supersonic and sub-sonic suppressed applications and how the AR-15 might be configured to function and was told that an AR-15 with sub-sonic ammo was a joke as it was nothing more than a 22lr performance wise. In another forum there has been a discussion where there has been some debate on the usefulness of a Mini-14 in a suppressed role.
